Hiking and Backpacking

 

These clubs within the Northeast Region are loaded with outdoor enthusiast who may be willing to help your crew plan and execute quality hiking and backpacking programs. 

American Hiking Society is dedicated to promoting hiking and to establishing, protecting and maintaining foot trails in the US. It has more than 130 member trail clubs and organizations and nearly 10,000 individuals. www.americanhiking.org

American Trails is a national trails advocacy organization working for the common interests of all trail users. www.americantrails.org

Adirondack Mountain Club (AHS), Lake George - 20,000 members, publishes guidebooks and Adirondack magazine, operates two lodges in the Adirondacks, oversees trail maintenance in the Adirondacks. www.adk.org

Appalachian Mountain Club (AHS) - oversees maintenance of the Appalachian and other trails in the Northeast, operates several mountaintop huts in the Presidentials and operates a shuttle to trailheads. The AMC offers a large slate of outdoor programs and guided tours from its lodges in the Whites, Berkshires, Catskills and Delaware Water Gap. www.outdoors.org

Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Harper's Ferry, VA, oversees maintenance of the AT by its member organizations and protects the trail from encroaching development. http://www.appalachiantrail.org

North Country Trail Association - 2,800-member association involved in developing a 4,000-mile hiking trail from Lake Champlain to North Dakota. Chapters in each state organize trail maintenance and hikes. www.northcountrytrail.org

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club - maintains 970 miles of hiking trails in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia including 240 miles of the Appalachian Trail. www.patc.net

Appalachian Mountain Club Connecticut Chapter - 10,000 members involved in hiking, biking, paddling, mountaineering, skiing, conservation, education, and trail work www.ct-amc.org

CT Forest and Park Association (AHS), Rockfall - dedicated to environmental protection and maintaining the 700-mile Blue-Blazed Trail System. www.ctwoodlands.org

Green Mountain Club, Connecticut Chapter - hiking, biking, canoeing, snowshoeing in CT, MA and VT. Maintains a section of the Long Trail. www.conngmc.com

Delaware

Wilmington Trail Club, Wilmington - founded in 1939, 800-member club conducts trail maintenance and offers hiking, paddling, biking, and xc skiing in in Delaware, Maryland, NJ and PA. www.wilmingtontrailclub.org
