The Northeast Region, Area 3, Venturing Officers Association invites all Venturing Scouts, Sea Scouts, and their guests to attend the annual Area 3 Venturing Summit. The 2012 Summit weekend will be held on Friday, May 18 through Sunday, May 20, 2011, at Camp Gorton, Dundee, NY, located on Lake Waneta. Participants may attend the Summit as members of a Council VOA coordinated contingent or with their Crew or Ship.

The purpose of the Area Summit weekend is to bring Ventures together to share ideas, and encourage relationships that will promote the growth of Venturing. The Area 3 Summit has been designed by the AVOA to emphasize FUN, FRIENDSHIP, and ADVENTURE, not award requirements or advancement. Participants will have the opportunity to sample a variety of activities and may find some they wish to incorporate into their Crew program. You will meet potential consultants and establish contacts that may help your Crew in their pursuits. Our goal is that the only regret you have would be that the weekend ended too soon!

The Area Summit begins with a big party on Friday night (that includes food, music, and opportunities to begin making new friends) and culminates on Sunday morning with the annual Area 3 meeting and induction of officers. The theme for this year is the 80′s, traveling back in time to the crazy hair, radical clothing and fun music! We are working on a lot of great new additions that will be shared during the coming weeks. We also have some awesome training opportunities, discussion forums and an advisors coffee house.

The fee for the 2012 Summit is $40 per person (for tent camping in personal tents you bring) or $50 per person (for in-door camping). The fee covers all food, program, Summit patch, and T-shirt, facilities and program materials. The fee applies to all youth and adults. Please note the deadlines and details on the registration form! On-time registrations must be postmarked by Friday, April 6, 2012.

Participants must bring tents and personal camping gear, or register in advance for a bunk in a cabin. Meals will be served in the dining hall and include Friday night snack, 3 Saturday meals and snack, and Sunday breakfast. Please contact us with any questions about food, camping accommodations or special needs.

Please wear the Venturing Field uniform for meetings, breakfast, and dinner. We encourage the wear of your Crew’s activities uniform for all other events.

If you plan to attend, or are just thinking about it, please send Anne Taylor, Area 3 VOA President an email at area3@nerventuring-bsa.org. We will notify you of program updates, requirements, and important information to assist your preparation. If you have questions or any special needs please contact us so we can assist.

We thank our 2012 host – the Venturing Committee, volunteers and staff of the Five Rivers Council!

See Everyone There!!!!!!!

What is Kodiak Challenge?

The Kodiak Challenge is oriented around a week long high adventure trek setting with leadership training and involvement woven into the adventure. The course prepares the Boy Scout or Venturing Scout to be a “servant leader” as they lead their peers.

The course is designed to be relevant to the participant’s life, to become internalized, is based on the servant leader concept, and is held in an outdoor setting, but most of all, it’s FUN!!

The course consists of five trek days where one leadership skill is learned per day, and a final component to teach reflection and evaluation of the Scout’s performance.

It pushes the boundaries of every Scout and will encourage trying new things that may be out of a Scout’s comfort zone.

The Kodiak Challenge is not about the trek; it’s about leadership skills.

Kodiak Challenge is not a classroom delivery of leadership skills. Rather, it allows every Scout’s to grow in their abilities as a leader during an adventure that tests them mentally and physically.

Who Can Attend?
